Hairy coos are lovely – no doubt one of the animals most associated with Scotland due to their gorgeous straggly red hair and big dopey eyes. They are very passive animals and you can approach them with out much concern.
As with everything though they need to be respected and hitting them with sticks, shoving mars bars into their mouths and trying to climb on their backs will eventually provoke them.
The baby coos are extremely cute and you will be tempted to have one as a pet – however they do grow to a hefty size and wouldn’t fit in your bed.
Kept warm by here hairy coats they are actually very lean animals as the need for body fat to insulate them is reduced. This contributes to the fact that they produce some of the best meat (don’t think about it!) in Europe – lean and BSE free!
They are not all red in colour, however, and you may see them in white and their native Black – all can be spotted all over Scotland.
