Seals can be found all along the coast of Scotland. We have 2 species – grey and common – you can tell the difference by looking at their noses! But you need to get quite close to do that or have an expert pointing them out to you. They are passive creatures and can be fairly friendly if treated with respect and can sometimes be seen playing around boats and ships.
They have often been linked with both Celtic and Scandinavian folklore with stories of men falling in love with seal – women and never being the same again!
